1872 — A Leap Year Hop, a tradition in which women were expected to ask men for dates and dances, proved "interesting entertainment" at the County Courthouse on this day. "Several hours were pleasantly spent in tripping the light fantastic, the ladies of course, 'doing the agreeable.' It was really amusing to see such a large collection of 'Old Wall Flowers' of the masculine gender," reported the Fayetteville Democrat.
1996 — The Lynn Shelton American Legion Post No. 27 on South College Avenue, built in 1939 and 1940, was added to the National Register of Historic Places on this day.
