1925 -- Edgar Lee Masters, the author of Spoon River Anthology, visited Gayeta Lodge, the home of Charles and Nellie Finger on this day.
1961 -- Basil Rathbone, the English actor best known for his film portrayals of Sherlock Holmes, spoke on the University of Arkansas campus on this day. Rathbone appeared as part of the Fayetteville Community Concerts series and presented dramatic presentations.
2006 -- Four runners including Wallace Spearmon Jr. of Fayetteville broke the world record for the 4X400-meter indoor relay on this day. Running at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track Center in Fayetteville, Spearmon, Kerron Clement, Darold Williamson and Jeremy Walker finished the race in 3:01.96, nearly a second faster than the previous record of 3:02.83 set in 1999.

University Buildings
- The first history of the University of Arkansas included more than a dozen photos of the campus as it appeared just after the turn of the century. Most of the buildings are no longer standing, and nearly all of those that do remain are used in new capacities.
