![]() An early map locating Fayetteville. |
This map from the 1897 Rand-McNally atlas shows the rail lines that ran into and out of Fayetteville just before the turn of the 20th century. The north-south line was the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway, which reached Fayetteville in 1882. The long spur southeast into Madison County is the old St. Paul Branch, and the short spur that starts just north of it is the Pacific & Greater Eastern Railway, a line that ran through the communities of Buckner's Grove and Summit to Wyman on the White River. Today, the Frisco bike path runs from Spring Street to Sixth Street following the P&GE's old railbed.
