![]() A plat proposed for present-day Mount Sequoyah, including a college campus. |
This 1908 map shows the newly proposed plat of Fayetteville's East Mountain Suburb. The subdivision of the top of what is now called Mount Sequoyah didn't remain as proposed in this plat, though. Today, Millegan Boulevard is better known as Skyline Drive, and the grounds within are part of the Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center. Garfield Avenue on the west side of the map is drawn about where Oklahoma Way now runs; the misnamed Duncan Street is Missouri Way; and the extension of Center Street on the south side is called Lighton Trail. The narrow Franklin and Everett streets no longer exist, if in fact they ever did.
The map was published in the Platbook of Washington County, Arkansas, by Northwest Publishing Co. of Des Moines, Iowa. J.R. Dunham was the compiler and draftsman, and the map was engraved by Albert Volk of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
