1940 — A cry of "Old Main's on fire" electrified the University of Arkansas campus on this day. Fire caused between $10,000 and $15,000 worth of damage to the upper two floors of the north end of the building.
1998 — The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport opened on this day near Highfill. Over the next several months, the commercial airlines operating out of Fayetteville's Drake Field — American Eagle, TransWorld Express, Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Northwest Airlink and U.S. Air Express — moved their operations to the new airport.
