1839 — The Ozark Standard of Springfield, Mo., reported on this day
that the keeper of military stores at Fayetteville had received "an
order from Fort Wayne, demanding a six pounder and 200 rounds of
cannister shot for the defence of the fort." The order came as a result
of the civil strife occurring in the Cherokee nation after the killings
of Major Ridge, John Ridge and Elias Boudinot.

- The first history of the University of Arkansas included more than a dozen photos of the campus as it appeared just after the turn of the century. Most of the buildings are no longer standing, and nearly all of those that do remain are used in new capacities.
